In spite of his win last year, luck does not appear to be on Padraig Harrington’s side this year. His injured wrist could actually cost him his title. Had it been any other tournament which wasn’t as meaningful, Harrington said that he would have withdrawn.
Regarding his performance in the British Open, Harrington said: “I’ll be apprehensive hitting any shot. I’ll certainly be apprehensive hitting it in the rough. It might be a situation now of trying to manage the pain. If the stability in the wrist is strong, it’s really dealing with the pain. The pain itself is not a problem, but the anticipation of flinching for the pain, that could be a problem. I’ve got to somehow manage that.”
The British Open this year is not a common one since Harrington may be absent because of his injured wrist and Tiger Woods isn’t in the field. With these two tremendous players missing, a whole new group of potential champions comes into place.
This year’s favorites so far are: Sergio Garcia, whose odds are 8-1, Ernie Els in second place with 12-1 and third in place Phil Mickelson who has 12-1. We will have to wait and see how this tournament evolves in order to be able to bet with greater certainty for this year’s champion.
