Euro 2008 Golden Boot

Who will be awarded with the title?

We all know that the European Championships aren’t exactly famous for having a high number of goals. The last high goaler was Michel Platini in 1984 who managed to score 9 goals and nobody has come close ever since. In spite of this, there are a couple of payers who stand out considerably and are candidates for the Euro 2008 Golden Boot.

Coming in first place and as favorites, are David Villa and Lukas Podolski. The Spanish player, David Villa has scored four goals in two games and is a good candidate for the title; he seems to be unstoppable right now, as Spain does too. Podolski (Germany) is also doing good; he has got three so far.

Another considerable player is the Turk Nihat Kahveci. He manager to score two that Petr Cech was unable to retain which resulted in the Turks stealing the Czcechs place in the quarter finals. Wesley Sneijder from Holland has been showing off what appears to be so far the best performance in the tournament. Silently, he has scored in every game so far and if the stars continue to shine on him he will carry on scoring in every game Holland has left to play.

An important factor that affects all of these players is the fact that the award doesn’t strictly depend only on them; it depends on how far their team will be in the tournament. An individual player might be doing great and scoring more than one goal in a single match, but if his team is beaten and left out of the tournament, all the goals scored will become meaningless.
